The Top 5 Greatest Christmas Songs Ever

Tis the season for Christmas lights, trees, and songs. Last week I brought you the five worst songs ever made to celebrate Christmas. This week, however, I bring you the best of the best. Unlike the last weeks list, these songs, for the most part, will not be judged by "who" sang it but rather on their content and ability to put you into that Christmas mood. Here they are, the top five best Christmas songs ever made:

#5. Silver Bells- This song earned the number five spot simply because it's lyrics encompass a majority of Christmas feelings and activities so well. "City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style. In the air there's a feeling of Christmas". That opening to the song describes so well the aura that come with the winter holidays. My recommended performance: Bing Crosby and Carol Richards.

#4. Winter Wonderland- Just like when you hear Silver Bells, Winter Wonderland can't help but put you in a Christmas mood. While this song is totally unrelated to the birth of Christ, one can't help but love the upbeat and happy tone it brings. It is a classic. My recommended performance: The Carpenters.

#3. The Carol of the Bells- To me, there is no other song that puts me in the Christmas mood more. Carol of the bells has not only been performed beautifully by scores of artists but it breaks away from the happy and bright aura that other traditional songs bring, replacing it with a seemingly darker and more sincere message. The lyrics are wonderful, almost every rendition does the song justice, and it tends to get stuck in your head for long periods. Long enough in fact to earn itself a number three spot. My recommended performance (and making it on this list for the second time): The Carpenters.

#2. Silent Night- Wow. What a great song. A song that not only encompasses what Christmas is about entirely but also lacks any flare or jazz. Just solemn, quite, and meaningful. My recommended artist: Enya (Although the lyrics are not in English, she does the song to much justice)

And now for the best Christmas Song.......in the world:

#1. The Christmas Cannon by Trans-Siberian Orchestra- Simply put, this song is stunning. Soaring lyrics and beautiful music combine together to create this Christmas masterpiece. Essentially all that Trans-Siberian Orchestra has done is adapted a favorite classical music piece for a piano to an orchestra and stapled an otherwise creepy little kid choir throughout the song and boom! You have a brilliant, catchy, and original song that screams Christmas from start to end. Hear the Christmas Cannon for yourself: click here.

Report safely inside from the snowstorm (about bloody time),
